Complaint
A listener complained a presenter gave an inaccurate reason for curtailing an interview. The ECU considered whether the broadcast met the relevant standards set out in the BBC Editorial Guidelines.
Outcome
The interview with the MP Debbie Abrahams ended with the presenter indicating it was necessary to go to an item of “breaking news”. In fact the next story was a pre-recorded item. The introduction to the report revealed, however, that President Trump had announced that a ceasefire between Iran and Israel had taken effect - a statement made at 6am UK time. The news was therefore still fresh and, whilst the choice of words might have led some listeners to expect a live item, it was not under the circumstances inaccurate or misleading.
