Complaint
The programme included a brief report on Tommy Robinson’s arrest at Luton Airport in which he was referred to as a “far-right activist”. A listener complained that this term gave a misleading of someone he thought should be characterised as a far right extremist. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
Although “far right activist” might not be an exhaustive description of Mr Robinson’s political position, the ECU did not consider it inaccurate, and saw no need for amplification in the context of a brief factual account of a topical event,
