Complaint
A viewer complained that an item in this bulletin allowed “highly misleading claims” about electric hire bikes in London (that they were “environmentally friendly” or “clean”) to go uncorrected. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
The ECU acknowledged that there was a wider debate about emissions resulting from the manufacture of electric bikes, but considered the terms complained of to be duly accurate in an item where the focus was on how they were being used by those living or working in London.
