Complaint
The programme included an item about asylum-seekers being housed in UK hotels. A listener complained that it contained a “vox-pop” clip in which a member of the public suggested asylum seekers received £175 a week as well as meals and accommodation – a suggestion whose inaccuracy had been acknowledged when the listener had complained about the use of the clip in an earlier edition of the programme. The ECU considered the complaints in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of accuracy.
Outcome
The repetition of what had already been acknowledged as an error was a breach of the BBC’s standards of accuracy. However, an item which acknowledged the listener’s role in pointing out the inaccuracy and set the record straight was included in the 26 October 2025 edition of the programme. The ECU considered this sufficient to resolve the issue of complaint.
