Complaint
A viewer complained of bias arising from disproportionate attention being devoted to the plight of Palestinians in Gaza, compared to Israelis killed or injured by Hamas. The ECU considered the complaint in the light of the BBC’s editorial standards of impartiality.
Outcome
It is in the nature of news bulletins to focus on the principal events of the day, and the day’s developments in the Israel-Gaza conflict resulted in the main focus being on Gaza. Nevertheless, the substantial reflection of Israeli viewpoints and events in Israel in the bulletin was enough to ensure the BBC’s standards of impartiality were met.
