Complaint
A reader raised concerns about the accuracy of references made to the age of Palestinian prisoners who had been released by Israel. The ECU considered whether the output met the relevant BBC Guidelines.
Outcome
The presenter in the video and the text underneath it both referred to the release of 90 prisoners, including 69 women and 21 children. The ECU agreed the line was inaccurate and had the potential to materially mislead audiences. Only nine of those in the list cited were under 18, the age below which the UN defines someone as a child.
