About Peter Jackson:

Peter Jackson was born 1961 in New Zealand.

He started making movies from an early age, when he managed to get his hands on a home video camera and filmed bits and pieces with his friends, as well as recording some stop motion animation. He has always been passionate about making movies, even winning a competition for one film he made on a children's television show - a bit like Blue Peter! He made his first film as a grown-up while having a full-time job at a newspaper, meaning they could only record on weekends.

Peter has learnt much of what he knows about filming and the industry through trial and error, but he has shown pure imagination with his most famous films, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, taking Tolkien's epic fantasy story from stage to screen, using incredible, ground-breaking special effects to bring fantasy worlds to life.

Peter Jackson has often said his favourite movie as a child was King Kong, so when he got to remake it as a grown up, it must have been a dream come true.

Peter Jackson has shown tremendous passion, imagination and determination to become one of the world's best-loved film directors and we think he really deserves his Gold badge. Well done, Peter!
