Mr Men and Little Miss get a Blue Peter surprise

The Mr Men and Little Misses are celebrating – it’s their 50th birthday!

Roger Hargreaves started drawing and writing about them in 1971 with Mr Tickle.

Molly, Roger’s granddaughter, is a huge Blue Peter fan and wrote to us to say it would be fantastic if her grandpa was awarded Blue Peter’s top honour “as he is an inspiration to young writers and illustrators.” Although Molly’s grandpa isn’t with us anymore, Blue Peter awarded Molly a Gold Blue Peter Badge on his behalf.

A letter written by Hannah, asking for a Gold badge for her Granpa.

When Molly’s Uncle Adam was 8, he asked his dad “What does a tickle look like?” His dad, Roger, thought about how to answer and came up with Mr Tickle – the first Mr Men book, and the start of millions of Mr Men and Little Miss books, newspaper cartoons and animations. Now Adam continues drawing the new Mr Men and Little Misses who’ve made it onto stamps and London Underground posters.

Mr. Tickle.

And Molly’s Uncle Adam created this amazing illustration of our Blue Peter team as Mr Men and Little Misses – isn’t it fantastic!
