Make your own Strictly score paddle

Have you ever wanted to score the dancing stars on Strictly Come Dancing along with the professionals? Or perhaps you want to host your very own Strictly night and score your friends at home. Well now you can, just follow these simple steps and you will be the proud owner of your very own Strictly score paddle.

You will need
  • Cardboard
  • Paper for the scores
  • Pencils or pens
  • String / Pipe cleaners / Treasury tags / Anything you can make loops from!
  • Glue OR double sided tape
  • Paddle template OR a bowl and a ruler
  • Hole puncher
  • Optional: Extra card or foam board

Step one: Create your paddle

Download and print the template from the 'Get this activity' button above, or find yourself a bowl and ruler if you are unable to print the template.

Stick the template down on a piece of card, or place down your bowl and ruler and trace around them to make the shape of a paddle. Do this twice, to make two paddles.

Step two: Decorate your paddle

Before you cut out your paddles, turn your card over and decorate the back by sticking on some wrapping paper or coloured paper - This will make your paddles nice and neat when you cut them out.

Now, grab a grown-up and carefully cut out the two paddle shapes from the card. Stick the two paddle shapes together with the decorated side facing outwards.

To make the handle stronger, cut out some foam board or extra cardboard to roughly the size of the handle and stick the extra card to the paddle handle.

Step three: Make your numbers

Place the paddle on top of 5-10 pieces of paper and lightly draw around the head.

Once again, with the help of a grown-up carefully cut this shape out of the paper and number the pages 1-10, feel free to get as creative and as colourful as you like here.

BP TOP TIP: To save paper, write on both sides!

Step four: Attach your numbers

With the help of an adult punch two holes at the top of the paddle. Use a pencil to carefully punch two holes at the top of the scoring paper so that the pages line up with the holes on the scoring paddle.

Feed your pipe cleaner, string or treasury tags through the paper and paddle and make sure they are tightly secured in a loop so you can easily flip through the paper scores on your paddle.

Congratulations, you have now made your strictly scoring paddle! Of course, you may have finished the steps, but you can always keep decorating!
