ZAPCHAT: Pongy Porridge Bake Off

The same pongy porridge breakfast at school is getting on my nerves. I wish mum would make more options! I think it's time we mixed things up...

A young witch (Mabel) in Cackle's Academy uniform folds her arms, looking disgruntled at a portion of school dinner that looks disgusting.
Figure caption,

Mum challenged me to do better and use my own recipes to feed the school. Challenge ON!

Figure caption,

I can’t even get one dish right! Not even fit for Star, but I’m just getting started.

Figure caption,

See Mum, cooking is easy as pie!

Figure caption,

I never thought I’d say the words, but I’m starting to hate cooking! It’s really hard cooking food that looks nice AND tastes nice. I owe Mum an apology.

Figure caption,

We made Pongy Porridge crumble. I came up with the idea, but I couldn’t have done it without Mum’s help. Together we make a good team!

ReinRules comment reads Well met Mabel! I like to cook pumpkin soup with my family because it is a 3 person job and it always turns out really good!
From ReinRules Mabel reply reads Well met, ReinRules. Pumpkin soup sounds delicious – I didn’t realise it would be a 3 person job! Maybe I’m starting to see why just one person (Mum!) cooking for all of Cackle’s is a tough task!
CalmKoala comment reads Well met Mabel!
I like to bake cakes and biscuits with my mum because we find them easier to make than meals. Usually they are good but we have failed sometimes. Mabel reply reads Well met, CalmKoala. It’s ok to fail when cooking meals – I certainly did when trying to feed the school. My pie tasted gross!
U18123928 comment reads Well met Mabel! I like cooking flapjack because it is quick and easy to make and it tastes better with raspberries or cherries. Mabel reply reads Well met, U18123928. Raspberries or cherries in a flapjack sound like a healthy touch. I’ll suggest that Mum should add the same to our Pongy Porridge each morning! Not sure she will listen though…
rainbowkittyqueen comment reads Well met Mabel!
I love making cheese cake with my mum! She has an amazing recipe Mabel reply reads Well met, rainbowkittyqueen. Mum once made me a cheesecake but the cheese she used had gone off and it tasted like old socks!
U18127368 comment reads Well met Mabel. I love making macaroni and cheese with my mum. Maybe you should try it with your mum! It doesn’t take that long to make and it is sooo good! But the problem is that it’s not very healthy. It should probably be made occasionally at Cackle’s, on special holidays or something like that. Goodbye Mabel. Mabel reply reads Well met, U18127368. After making Pongy Porridge crumble together, we might actually be a good team! I’ll put macaroni and cheese on the list of meals we could cook together. Good idea to save it for a special occasion – got to look after your health!
Butterfly123 comment reads Well met Mabel, i like making peanut butter cookies with my mum. Mabel reply reads Well met, Butterfly123. I love peanut butter, but you’ve got to be careful with nuts in recipes in case the person eating your food has a nut allergy. That’s why my dairy-free health shakes are so good because they are good for people with dairy allergies!
U18136027 comment reads I like making Choco chip cookies with my mum, brownies with my mum and more savoury foods with the rest of my family. Mabel reply reads Well met, U18136027. That’s great that you can cook different things with different family members! My Mum does sweet and savoury but sometimes gets them mixed up. The less said about gravy ice-cream, the better!
U18114469 comment reads I love cooking this pasta with my family because it is basically a tradition we have started. It includes sausage, pasta, courgette, cream cheese, onion and lemon juice. It is so good. I enjoy chopping the courgette and onion even though the onion makes my eyes hurt! Mabel reply reads Well met, U18114469. Great recipe! Mum claimed she was cutting onions when I told her she was my favourite person in the world but I think they were happy tears.
ChocoBunny comment reads Well met Mable,
Me and my Mum love baking cakes. We've baked my Nan's Robin birthday cake and my Grandma's garden birthday cake. I've even baked her birthday cake. Mabel reply reads Well met, ChocoBunny. Wow! A robin cake and a garden cake sound scrumptious. Mum once made a garden cake but it was just full of sprouts from the garden – bleurgh!
Pamela comment reads Hi Mabel!
I love to cook bakewell starts with my dad because he is a professional chef. His bakewell tarts are the best and we both have lots of fun making them! Mabel reply reads Well met, Pamela. A professional chef for a parent is the dream! I know my Mum is technically a chef but I’m not sure she could make bakewell tarts as good as your dad.
U18135963 comment reads Well met Mabel I am showing you Apple crumble with cinnamon and some strawberries in it. It is my favourite thing that has apple in it. Mabel reply reads Well met, U18135963. Apples are yummy in lots of things! Apple pie, apple tarts, even in salads! Your crumble sounds a lot better than Pongy Porridge crumble.
