Dilemma: The Case of the Fishocolate Cake

Hello mystery fans! Welcome back to my blog, “Jas Investigates”. 👀🤔

I hope everyone filed their nails 💅 today because this latest one is a real head scratcher!

It was a normal Saturday, just like any other…

I had planned the most awesome surprise for my dad’s birthday. 🎉🎁🎈Wait for it….

Home-made, chocolate fishfinger cake! 🎂 Or as I like to call it “fishocolate”. 🐟🍫🤤

I know right? I checked dad’s diary to make sure he was at work, then Lily’s mum came round and baked it with me. (Lily was all, “ergh, fishfingers and chocolate” but I was like “Hello? Fishocolate is going to be huge so, whatever.”)

So anyway, we left the fishocolate cake by the window to cool and when we came back it was gone! 😱🎂❌

Someone must have stolen it! But who would do something like that?

Did someone creep up to the window when we weren’t looking?

Or was Lily faking it when she said she didn’t like fishocolate? 🤔⁉️

More importantly, what am I going to get my dad for his birthday now?! 😭😭😭

Mystery Solvers, I need your help now more than ever! What should I do now? 

Wow. 😮 Just when I think I’ve figured it out, the mystery deepens even further! 🔍

Massive thanks for your suggestions so far. 🙏  I really liked biggestcbbcfan13’s idea of making a replacement cake.

And that was when I made my terrible discovery! Someone had been tampering with my recipe book! 😱📖⁉️

Someone wanted my fishocolate cake recipe so bad that they were prepared to steal it! 😡

But the only person who had tried it was Mrs Hampton. Suddenly she had become my number one suspect. Using my detecting skills I snuck a look into Mrs Hampton’s car and look what I found on the back seat! 🚙🔍❓

A mystery tin just big enough to hold one fishocolate cake! 🐟🍫🎂

I looked inside and found… 😧

A marshmallow and beetroot flan! 🍰

Mrs Hampton explained she is allergic to fishfingers so she decided to bring her own cake to the party instead.

So I guess Lily’s mum isn’t the thief after all...

So who is?! 🤔😩😡

This is a disaster! My dad hates beetroot and we’re running out of time! 🎁😭 This is going to be the worst birthday ever! 😭🎁

If only I could find out who stole the cake… Does anyone have any ideas how I could find out?

I decided it didn’t matter who stole the cake (although I did LOVE some of your suggestions about who it could be - jelly_ferret suggesting "the local squirrel",  lots of you suggesting Lily and FantasticBubblyFox even suggested that it was ME who ate it and that I'd accidentally forgot I'd done it?! Actually, that's kind of possible...)

We all agreed that the most important thing is that dad has a happy birthday. We waited until he was at work and me, Mrs Hampton and Lily all worked together to make him a replacement cake. 🎂

However, just as we were putting it on the window guess who walked in! My dad!

I got his diary wrong. He wasn’t working at all this week!

It turned out HE found the first cake and tried a piece before he could stop himself. He was hoping he could use my recipe to make a replacement before we found out.

I realised that was why my recipe book had been tampered with. Dad was just trying to fix things!

It all worked out in the end though. Instead of one cake we had two; One beetroot and one Fishocolate! Even Lily agreed they were both delicious! ☺
