Martha's Dilemma - Young Scientist of the Year

You voted for me to fix the laptop, but I couldn’t do it so I decided to take GarnetCreativeSparrow and ScarletDizzyRobot's advice and offered to rewrite Cassie’s essay for her.

At first she refused; something about how my calculations wouldn’t be as accurate (as if!), so we agreed to put our differences aside and work together.

I have to say it was a triumph… Even Cassie agreed it was far better than anything either of us could have done on our own. Best of all was when we were announced joint winners of that amazing trophy!

Now we just have to work out how to split it…

The results of this data-gathering suggest that I shouldn't look - IvoryCoolLizard, SunstoneNoisyGrape, QuartzFunnyDog, PeridotSunnyChimp and many, many more of you said I'd only feel guilty and that it wouldn't really be winning.

SunstoneViolinChimp pointed out that I normally NEVER break the rules... but there's a first time for everything, right?! 

But you’ll be pleased to know I didn’t cheat.

Ok fine, I was going to but then Jas walked in on me and stopped me.

Ok fine, I say “stopped”... she wrestled the laptop out of my hands and it fell on the floor.

So the good news is I didn’t cheat! The bad news?

I feel terrible. Cassie’s essay is gone forever.

I wanted to beat her but not like this. I’ve let myself down, I’ve let Cassie down but worst of all, I have let down science.

I’ve got one day to decide. What should I do?

Right. I’ll start at the beginning… I have the honour of taking part in the Young Scientist of the Year Award. Just look at the prize!

So far I have tied with Cassie in the Chemistry Practical, the Biology Quiz and the Maths Test. I just have to win “Best Physics Essay” and that prize is all mine!

Then something amazing happened. Cassie accidentally left her laptop behind last night.

All I have to do is open her files and bingo! I can read her essay. Then I’ll know what to do to beat her.

Of course it’s not really cheating if I read it, but I guess it wouldn’t be exactly fair either.

I mean obviously I’m not going to peek... Or am I? Or not?

This is a nightmare!
