Darrell’s Letters – Week Thirteen

Hello there. I’m Darrell Rivers and I’ve just started attending Malory Towers. Will you be my pen pal? I’ll write to you each week and it would be lovely to have you write back.

What an eventful last day of term! I was acused (msp) of breaking Mary-Lou\u2019s pen with all evidence pointing to me. Sally stood by me from the start, she knew I was being set up. Gwen said she wasn\u2019t the only one that didn\u2019t feel safe at school with me and even Alicia said I was capable of anything when I\u2019m angry! With the vote tied in class court, Alicia stood on Gwen\u2019s side, which meant I had to go and explain myself to Miss Grayling \u2013 I thought I was going to be expelled! Luckily Mary-Lou got to us in time to prove my innosence (msp) \u2013 she found Gwen\u2019s plimsolls with the ink on it! Emily cleverly worked out that the ink had been poured onto my plimsolls but Gwen\u2019s showed they had been used to stamp on the pen. I wasn\u2019t going to let Gwen get expelled so we didn\u2019t tell Miss Grayling \u2013 everyone deserves a second chance. Malory Towers gave me one. Mary Lou\u2019s confidence wasn\u2019t destroyed with the pen and she sang a beautiful solo at the final assembly. It turns out that all Gwen wanted was a best freind (msp) - she didn\u2019t like how Mary-Lou \u2018adored\u2019 me instead of being friendly with her. I told her that freinds (msp) are people that know you and who you can speak honestly to. I know she\u2019s not a bad sort really and we made a pact that we would start afresh next term! Oh! It\u2019s clear that Sally is the one I can count on, she really is the best. I do hope she takes up my invitation to visit during the holidays. Who would you most like to spend the holidays with?

Dear freinds, This is my final reply until next term! You all want to spend the holidays with your freinds and familys of course and that\u2019s what I hope to do too. I would love for Sally to visit, she really is the one I can count on (you all agree!). Thank you so much for being my pen pals this term at Malory Towers. I\u2019ve learnt so much about you! Your perfect midnight feasts, sports you like to play, what makes you laugh, what you\u2019d like to do for a career, how you\u2019ve helped your freinds and family, the things that make you different, times you\u2019ve been brave and so much more. You\u2019ve helped me with your kind words to control my temper and deal with my word-blindness, so thank you! Remember, everyone always deserves a second chance. I can\u2019t believe it\u2019s summer already \u2013 there\u2019s always next year\u2026Darrell
