Hetty Feather's Diary: Mrs Calendar's Secret
My name's Hetty Feather - and this is my diary.
I’ve always wanted to be a writer! That’s why I’ve always kept a journal. I like looking back over my life, day by day, and having memories jump out at me. Sometimes, it makes me laugh when I read back and think of all the adventures we got up to in the Foundling Hospital. Sometimes, it almost makes me cry when I read about Matron locking me in the Tench and all the awful things she did.
Most of my writing has always been for me – to treasure my memories. So, writing an article for Mr Calendar’s newspaper to help Jack prove his innocence was really different. This time, I was writing to help someone. And it worked! Even though I had to pretend the article was written by a man just so Mr Calendar would read it, swallowing my pride was all worth it in the end.
I may not be a published author but now I know my writing was put to good use! Jack’s back in the garden and not locked up in jail, thank goodness. At last, everyone knows that he’s a good a person who was trying to help his family. He’d do anything for them!
But what does Mr Buscombe, Miss Emily’s tutor, want from his family?! He’s Mrs Calendar’s secret son! But why is he here using a false name? And what does he want - to reunite with his mother or cause trouble?
I finished my duties in record time, read my responses below.
