This week, Post of the Week has been awarded to Abigail, 10, from Lincolnshire. She is already the proud owner of Blue, Silver and Diamond badges, and next Abigail set her sights on the Green badge. Despite not being the biggest fan of bugs, she still decided to very thoughtfully make a place that they could live happily in her garden - the Bug Hotel!
It has been made from scraps of wood, cut and screwed together, with some supervision from her Dad (if you want to make something from wood using tools, only do so with adult supervision and safety equipment, like gloves and protective goggles). It looks excellent, and Abigail has definitely earned her Green badge!
The inside of the hotel is stuffed full of bamboo canes and pinecones - plenty of places for the bugs to explore and rest! It also looks really cool too.
The back of the hotel features interesting ‘tongue and groove’ wood, which is often used on sheds, so very in-keeping in a garden. It also has a metal bracket at the top, so it can be screwed to a fence or similar.
Abigail has carefully ironed two leaves flat, and used them as signs - a genius idea. She also painted the hotel dark green to blend in to her garden. Great work Abigail!
