This week, post of the week has been awarded to Caitlan, age 14, from West Yorkshire. Caitlan told us that she has been attending a woodturning club for the past three years, and recently she carved a wooden platter, which she decided to decorate with the Blue Peter ship! We think it looks stunning!

Caitlan said that she is very passionate about constructing things with her hands, and hopes that she might be able to inspire other young people with her woodturning creations - we're certainly inspired Caitlan, astounding work!

Caitan put a circular block of wood onto a special machine, which spins it at high speed. She then carved into the wood with a metal tool. This should only be done with supervision from a grown-up experience in using making this type of thing, and with appropriate safety equipment such as goggles.

She then used a paper template to paint the ship, so it has come out perfectly formed! She used fancy iridescent paint, so you get the multiple shades of blue.

Finally she painted on a layer of varnish, to make the wood even smoother, and add a shine. We're big fans of your work Caitlan! 👏👏🙌
