7 sweet facts about ice cream!
July is Ice Cream Month, so here are some delicious facts that you may not know about this lovely dessert!

1. There is a food that tastes like ice cream but isn't...
There is a fruit that grows in South America called the Pacay, which is said to taste just like vanilla ice cream!

2. Ice cream has been put to the test
It takes on average 50 licks to finish a scoop of ice cream. That must have been a fun job for whoever discovered that!

3. Making ice cream uses a lot of milk!
Ice cream makers use 11 litres of milk to make one gallon of ice cream.

4. There is a scientific reason that you can get an ice cream headache
When something really cold touches the roof of your mouth, it makes your the blood vessels tense up. This is what causes brain freeze.
TOP TIP: If you press your tongue against the roof of your mouth it warms it up so that your blood vessels unclench and your brain warms up again.Â

5. Ice cream is old
A food similar to ice cream was eaten in China in 618-97AD by King Tang of Shang. This 'ice cream' was made with buffalo milk, flour and camphor oil.

6. Ice cream comes in weird and wonderful flavours
Around the world, you can find unusual flavours of ice cream such as avocado, garlic, chilli, liquorice, cheese and bacon. Would you try any of these?

7. Ice cream used to be ice without the cream.
The Romans used to mix ice or snow with flavourings to make desserts before they decided to add cream into the mix! You can still get shaved ice in lots of countries around the world.
