Shelley Cyber Kids

Students from Shelley High School's Cyber Cafe club have been committing some of their thoughts to the web.

From Shelley High School's Cyber Cafe:
Updated 23/05/03

Annika says:

My name is Annika. I am 15 years old and am currently in year 11 at Shelley High School. I live in West Yorkshire and have many hobbies, including, climbing, playing sport, listening to music, karate, swimming, dying my hair and computer games. After my GCSE’s I hope to go to college and carry on to university to get a degree in some sort of science.

Michael says:

My name is Michael and I am 16 years old. I am heading the technical aspect of this website. My hobbies and interests include Rugby League, Cricket, Football and Website design. I have represented Huddersfield and Kirklees at rugby League and I am a loyal supporter of the Huddersfield Giants and watch every game either Home or Away. My future plans include going to college to study my A-levels in P.E, Business and Economics, Chemistry and Psychology. I am then hoping to become a P.E teacher.

Laura says:

Hi! My name is Laura and I’m 16 years old. I’m in year 11 at school and will soon take my final exams. I hope to go to college and university. After university I would like to go into archaeology. I like lots of different kinds of music including rock and nu-metal. I’m currently doing my Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, helping at my local Rainbow’s group and attending folk dancing lessons! I’m co-ordinating the Voice’s project along with Michael, focusing on the creative side rather than the technicals.

Adam says:

I am 16 and doing my A-levels. I am taking Law, Sociology and Government and Politics. I’m a Liberal Democrat Voter and feel that we should all be treated as equal regardless of gender, race sexuality etc.

I like knowing how things work and why things work. I’m an openly gay male. I enjoy classical music and I like helping people whenever I can.

Adam says:
There are many people around the Huddersfield area that, like me, think that there is a major problem with public transport. For example, getting in to Huddersfield town centre from small villages such as Emley or Cumberworth proves to be becoming more and more problematic. From Upper Cumberworth, a regular bus into the town centre runs every 2-3 hours, which makes getting about a real problem for locals.Other problems are also now occurring, mainly with a bus company, who have increased their fares by up to 4p for each journey. This increase has also affected school children, and at Shelley High School, the bus fares have risen by up to 12% in 3 years. This is an annually occurring problem for students in the area, and locals travelling to and from various destinations.

James "Beany" says:
I come to cyber cafe because it is an excellent way to spend time learning about computers, the Internet and doing fun activities after school. A lot of my friends also go to cyber cafe so we all share a common interest. The midway break is timed just right so as to give students a rest and something to eat and drink. The staff are very helpful and cheery too. Cyber cafe is a great and valuable escape from the fast pace of normal life providing an efficient and relaxing way to spend time.

Carlie says:
I like going to cyber cafe because you can go on the computer and play on the games and you can learn computer skills and I got to make new friends.

Annika and Lisa:
We enjoy coming to Cyber Café for various reasons.  For one thing the staff are nice and friendly and are always willing to help.  There are many tasks you can do here, such as website design, graphics and games night.  You can always do homework!  The other good thing about Cyber Café is that you get free food and drink, a free lift home and free access to the Internet!

Richard says:
I love computers. I am 15 and go to Shelley High School. I watch too much Star Trek, and also watch Dune. Been to every museum you can think of. Love going on holiday to Scotland. I’m half  Scottish and came to school in a kilt.

Holly says:
Stripysox.com is a crazy school magazine that comes out at festival times such as Christmas, Easter and Halloween. Stripy Sox was first introduced to Shelley High School in 2002.

The name originated when the editor, Holly, had her feet on the table and was wearing stripy socks, so to cut an hour of hesitation and searching, short, we created the name STRIPYSOX.COM with this new name and a load of enthusiasm. The group responsible for stripysox.com all sat round a table and started to create the wonder that now is the mystical world of a magazine.

It’s written by a fantastic bunch of students that take time out of their busy schedules to bring you entertainment at its best. The magazines are full of witty jokes, themed recipes, artistic comic strips, stories written by pupils of the school, interesting songs and much much more, and all at a very respectable price of 20p! The money raised by the sale of the magazines, goes to the RNLI (and for those of you who aren’t quite sure, that’s the Royal National Lifeboat Institution!)  The STRIPYSOX.COM editorial team is headed by Holly, members within the team are a dadbhand at creative writing, enjoy collecting research, have a wild sense of humour and just love being part of a team.
