Paul Johar was one of the many Asian people in Bradford who
visited the Belle Vue photographic studio on Manningham Lane.
The pictures were often sent back to India or Pakistan to demonstrate
to relatives that everything was going well in England.
He says: "I sent my first photograph back to India and my wife wrote
back asking if I was working for the police - because the conductor's
uniform looked like a police uniform. Then when she saw me working
on the buses she was very upset. She said, 'You were a headteacher
back in India - what are you doing here?'"
