The Solar System with Jodie Whittaker

Part of Learn & revise

We are not alone in the universe.

The Earth is the planet we call home, but it's just one planet in a huge solar system. There are many astral bodies which span across hundreds of millions of miles and each one has their own unique properties. In this Bitesize lesson, we've asked Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker to fly us out into the cosmos to learn about our solar system.

The Doctor is in - and she has a few facts to share with you.

  • Our solar system is held together by the Sun's gravity
  • There are four rocky planets (including Earth) and four gas planets in deeper space
  • Jodie's top tip is not to try and stand on a gas planet - you'd fall through!
  • The planets aren't the only thing in our solar system: there's also moons and other cosmic bodies
