| FACTS |
 |
|
Two
working titles for The Full Monty were: Eggs, Beans and Chippendales
(arf arf!) and No Man's Land. Other title suggestions were
Six Ugly Pigs (hmm) and Fish and Chippendales.
A
Sheffield businessman made a successful compensation claim
against 20th Century Fox. His business phone number was visible
in a scene in the film and crank callers made his life a nightmare!
The
'98 Oscars were dominated by the film The Titanic but The
Full Monty earned an Oscar for Best Original Music.

| The
cast |
With
an audience of mainly females and a token gesture of males, dragged
along by their partners, the Full Monty was quite slow to start
and as I hadn't read much about this particular production, I was
shocked to find it was set in Buffalo, New York, rather than in
Sheffield.
The
original soundtrack was replaced with music written specifically
for the stage version and although it worked, Hot Chocolate's 'You
Sexy Thing' was definitely missed.
After
my initial reaction, I settled down to what turned out to be a very
entertaining evening.
The
lead part of Jerry Lukowski, played by Australian actor Tim Rogers,
was excellently cast. He performed the role of an unfit, unemployed
steel worker, who - needing cash to pay his child support and to
regain his dignity - saw an opportunity to raise money. His idea?
To produce a male strip show "for one night only", similar
to, but, in his words, "better than the Chippendales".

The
storyline kept (apart from location) to the original and was sad,
funny, thrilling and exciting.
The
sets were simple, but effective and the cast worked well together
and the audience warmed to them and I think, enjoyed every minute.
All
in all, it was a night to remember. There was a tasteful, "Full
Monty" but if you blinked, you will have missed it.

From
a BBC Birmingham competition winner:
Went to the Full Monty last night. It was brilliant! The show was
superbly staged, the cast were wonderful and were clearly enjoying
themselves and it appeared to be a full house. It was a thoroughly
enjoyable evening.
Thank you, once again. David Truscott
