A herd of buffalo literally stumbled across Khali's cub den and took the opportunity to make a preemptive strike against their worst enemies. Inexperienced, and terrified by the noise and confusion, the young cubs panicked and ran into the open. One was trampled and killed.
Belatedly Scruffy entered the fray but Scar, the big powerful-looking head of the family, hid in the thicket while Khali and the other lionesses put their lives on the line defending their cubs.
