Many of us embark on new year’s resolutions with the best of intentions, but eventually that motivation can begin to wane.

Lose a bit of weight

Because of the excesses of Christmas, this is one of the most popular new year goals.

Why not take some inspiration from Commonwealth gold medallist Precious McKenzie – “nature’s pint-sized answer to the forklift truck” – and try lifting weights to shift some of those pesky extra pounds.

It's cold outside and it can be a struggle to get motivated, so it could be a good idea to turn to chart-topping band Dexys Midnight Runners.
