Charity streaker escapes football ban
A streaker
Streakers are a common feature at sporting events
A teenager who streaked at a Coventry City football match has discovered she will not be banned from Highfield Road.

Amy Freeman, 18, who could have been barred from the ground for life and fined £1,000, instead received a written warning.

Ms Freeman said her strip helped raise hundreds of pounds for charity, a circumstance taken into account by the club.

The teenager ran on to the pitch during Coventry City's televised match with Derby County on 21 December last year.

Criminal offence

A club spokesman said: "To enter the field of play in football... is a criminal offence.

"It is our policy to instigate a ban on any person who breaches the law at Highfield Road.

"However, because of the extenuating circumstances, Coventry City will not be implementing a ban on this occasion."

"Nevertheless, we must enforce that we will not be so lenient if the actions of Ms Freeman were repeated."

He added that the decision not to ban Ms Freeman, who has been cautioned by police, should not be viewed as a precedent.
