In pictures: Teachers march in London
More than 1,000 primary and secondary schools were forced to close as teachers went on strike over cost-of-living allowances.
Thousands of members of two teaching unions were joined by local government unions and firefighters on a march through London.
Firefighters, council staff and teachers are on strike
Brass instruments and bagpipes were played
There were cheers for the Fire Brigades Union (FBU)
The march continued through central London
Teachers want £6,000 London Weighting
Police officers directed the march on the roads
