Striking crews free man from car
Fire engine
Firefighters used specialist cutting equipment
Striking firefighters abandoned their picket line to rescue a man trapped in his car in Lancashire.

The incident happened in Blackburn at about 1900 GMT on Sunday.

It was attended by army Green Goddesses but regular firefighters using specialist cutting equipment managed to free the man.

The injured man - who suffered serious head and leg injuries - was in a serious condition in Blackburn Royal Infirmary on Monday.

He was hurt when his car hit a lamppost on Preston New Road between Salmesbury Hall and Yew Tree Drive.

The front seat passenger - a woman - was treated for cuts and bruising.
