The checks are taking place at the two busiest bars in Hucknall from Friday to stop people carrying weapons such as knives.

Anyone trying to get into the Half Moon pub in Market Place and the Lord Byron in Annesley Road will be checked with a hand-held metal detector.

People who refuse to have the electronic check will be refused entry.

Police injured

The scheme follows a series of late-night fights which have left a number of people injured.

On one occasion three police officers were surrounded by a large crowd and injured as they attempted to break up a fight.

The detectors have been introduced as part of a number of measures to stop violence in the town including a new radio link between pubs, more doormen and increased police patrols.
