Poppy appeal launches with parade

Jersey's annual poppy appeal has been officially launched with a parade and short service at the island's Cenotaph in St Helier.

The Royal British Legion said it hoped islanders will raise more than £100,000 for this year's appeal.

Fundraisers have already started carrying out house-to-house collections in aid of war veterans and serving service personnel.

There are about 5,000 former members of the Armed Forces in the island.
