Island shows heart with machines
Man being treated with a defibrillator
The defibrillators cost £2,000 each
Thirty seven defibrillators have been provided across Jersey, thanks to the island's St John Ambulance.

Places including the Co-op in St Peter, Elizabeth Castle, Jersey Airport and Broad Street's Post Office have one of the heart-starting machines

St John Ambulance began providing the £2,000 defibrillators in March 2001.

Members of the charity said they were delighted with the interest in the cardiac equipment, but added they hoped it would increase in the coming year.

The St John Ambulance County Training Commissioner in Jersey, Nigel Truscott, said he believed more companies were interested in buying them.

He said that it showed their commitment to customers and staff health.
