Jersey Senator Frank Walker says he is considering his position as a States member after only narrowly winning a censure motion against him.
The senator had been accused by Senator Ted Vibert of putting pressure on the planning authorities.
The issue under scrutiny involved getting approval for an infill site on a friend's land in Trinity.
The censure motion was defeated by 16 votes in favour to 23 against. Eight members abstained.
Senator Walker said he would not take any further action following the censure vote.
But said he does not like the way politics has changed.
He said he was now considering his position both as President of Policy and Resources and as an island politician.
The post Senator Walker holds is Jersey's top political job.
