Company investigates tax systems

States members will consider the tax system proposals in February
Plans are being developed to find out what kind of goods and service tax could be introduced in Jersey.

An international company, Crown Agents, is analysing different possibilities after a request was made by the States.

When it passed tax and spending plans earlier this year, it asked the Finance and Economics Committee to do research into systems that could be brought in.

A consultation document will soon be published to give businesses and islanders a chance to air their views.

Crown Agents will also be looking at payroll and environmental taxes.

A final report will be issued at the end of the year and States members will consider the proposals in February.
