Jersey's Chamber of Commerce has said it will not support plans to introduce a sales tax as a way of raising more revenue for the government.
The Finance Committee has suggested ways to raise money to fill projected gaps in government finances when a zero tax rate for companies is introduced.
One of them is a possible introduction of 5% sales tax on good and services.
The chamber is supporting most of the measures, but has said a sales tax will damage the economy.
The chamber said it believed any sales tax would damage tourism and retail businesses.
