A Guernsey politician believes a proposed ban on smoking in public spaces infringes people's rights.
Commerce and Employment Minister Stuart Falla is opposing the legislation due to come before the House this month.
Although exemptions have been included on the list of enclosed public spaces, such as prisons and nursing homes, he would like to see it extended.
His department is also concerned that outlawing smoking in pubs and restaurants would discourage visitors.
It would rather see further encouragement for the creation of non-smoking areas in places where food is served than an outright ban.
