Passengers at Guernsey airport could face delays at peak times because of a hitch over arrangements for the parking of aircraft.
The new terminal was designed around the idea of aircraft positioning themselves nose-in to free up spaces and prevent queues.
But the airlines are reluctant to pay for the equipment and staff needed to make the plan work.
Airport Director Colin Le Ray says it has caused problems.
One million passengers
He said: "What that means for passengers is that aircraft could be delayed in Jersey or aircraft landing in Guernsey could have to wait for a stand to become free.
"That means a few minutes delay and this past summer we have had some occasions where that has happened."
The £19m building, which was officially opened in March, replaces the island's 65-year-old former airport buildings.
