Congestion on Guernsey's roads has led to claims that motorists are getting a raw deal.
Deputy Graham Guille says motorists face endless delays, diversions and disruption and he blames the lack of off-street parking.
He wants more purpose-built car parks, possibly even multi-storey ones.
And he welcomes moves by the Environment Department to turn its back on previous States' policies, which he says were anti-car.
Commuters in Guernsey were to experience their first drive to work with a new set of traffic lights at Les Banques on Tuesday morning.
The controversial signals have been installed for a trial period of a year, after critics claimed they would slow down cars travelling along the waterfront.
They were activated on Monday afternoon, resulting in long tailbacks. But engineers then had to turn them off at 1645 GMT, only hours after they had switched them on, because of control computer software problems.
