Firms urged to increase recycling
Litter in bin
Businesses in Guernsey are being offered the chance to recycle more of their rubbish.

Mayside Recycling has introduced a scheme to deal with the disposal of polythene waste in the island.

The company plans to collect plastic rubbish such as carrier bags, shrink wrap and pallet wrap from warehouses and supermarkets.

The waste will then be sorted and bailed, before being sent to the UK for processing.

Mayside says it has had a positive response from a number of firms keen to take part in the project.

Director Tommy Duquemin believes that the new project is particularly important in the light of the current debate over how Guernsey deals with its rubbish.

Health concerns mean that plans for an incinerator at Longue Hougue in St Sampson's are currently on hold, pending a review by a panel appointed by the States.
