Historic meeting gets under way
States of Guernsey
The way the government sits will remain unchanged
The last Guernsey States meeting of the present era gets under way on Wednesday.

Douzaine representatives will take their places in the House for the last time before radical changes come into force.

States members gathered for their usual breakfast at the Old Government House hotel at 0815 GMT.

They then posed for one last photograph on the steps of the Royal Court building.

Nine departments

The way the government sits will remain unchanged with the States of Deliberation remaining in place.

A new Policy Council will be responsible for the development and control of corporate policy and a Treasury and Resources Department will look after how money and resources are allocated to each department.

There will be nine departments, which will have responsibility for delivering services.

A further three committees will look after the development of States' procedures and departmental constitutions, scrutiny of policy and services and public sector pay negotiations.

Issues for Wednesday's agenda include the unresolved parking issue at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital, which is set to dominate the meeting.

Also up for discussion are proposals for affordable housing schemes and the future of air links to the islands.

There are also two amendments and three requetes.
