There were some problems with fireworks over the New Year

Two Guernsey government committees who disagree on a fireworks policy are being asked to work together to find a solution for their misuse.
The Committee of Home Affairs and the Board of Industry, which currently disagree on the proper way forward, will now jointly write a report on the issue, following the States approving a Requete which could see laws tightened.
The Requete went through by 31 votes to 18.
The Home Affairs Committee favours education when it comes to controlling the misuse of fireworks, while the Board of Industry said all that could be done by education has been, and it is now calling for new laws.
Despite fewer incidents last Fireworks Night in November, there seemed to be a spate of problems over the New Year.
It is hoped the cross-committee approach will bring a solution to the problem one stage closer.
