Islanders propose more housing
Islanders in Guernsey want more housing to be built, judging by responses to a planning inspector.

About 600 islanders made submissions in response to the island Development Committee's Draft Rural Area Plan review.

Almost 90% of the island is covered by the plan and there are hundreds of sites landowners would like to develop.

Most of the 600 responses wanted a change of use for tourist attractions to another sector and new residential developments on vineries, gardens and green fields.

High density

Some areas such as Les Passee/Portinfer, Landes due Marche/ Haute Capelles, and Vazon/Albecq have a very high density of representations.

But many homes covered by the Rural Area Plan have a site near them.

Islanders have until 31 December to make a submission, either supporting or objecting to any of the representations already made.

These can be seen on weekdays, between 0830 and 1700 GMT at Sir Charles Frossard House.
