An ancient Guernsey feudal title is to be sold at auction next week.
The title of Seigneur de Carteret dates from medieval times and the Fief de Carteret will be the only lot at a special Martel Maides auction on Tuesday evening.
The Fief is being sold with an auction estimate of between £20,000 and £30,000.
The successful bidder will receive documents and records from as far back as 1615 as well as the right to style him or herself as the Seigneur or Dame de Carteret.
The sale is expected to appeal to potential buyers both from within the Bailiwick and further afield.
The new owner of the Fief will also be entitled to a place on the feudal court that meets twice a year at the Court House of St George in the Castel.
The title has been owned by the same
family since about 1897 and the new owner will add their name to the age old register of Fief
holders by attending Guernsey's traditional Conveyancing Court.
