Child charity calls for more help
Child abuse
The charity wants to raise awareness as well as funds
Children in the Channel Islands could be missing out on vital support due to a charity suffering a lack of fundraisers.

Childline is a UK initiative but has branches in the Channel Islands which deal with more than 500 calls a year.

Those who call the helpline have a range of problems including abuse, bullying, family relationships and bereavement.

The charity wants more people to help with fundraising.

'Hard task'

Members meet once a month in Guernsey to generate ideas on how to raise cash.

The South West regional fundraiser Sarah Campbell-Barnard said giving up just a few hours a month could make a huge difference in children's lives

She said a lack of cash meant some people may not receive the support they badly need.

She said: "We have to fundraise for 90% of our money every year, and we have start that from scratch every January, which is a hard task.

"So what we have to do is continually raise funds and always try to raise awareness of what we do, but we rely on people's and businesses' generosity to do that."
