Island hit by power cut

There was a high voltage fault on Guernsey's distribution network
A power cut left a third of homes in Jersey without electricity on Wednesday morning.

A high voltage fault on the Guernsey distribution network stopped electricity flow on one of the connections which supplies the Channel Islands.

Customers in Les Quennevais and Five Oaks were affected.

Jersey's electricity was restored five minutes later by switching to the island's power generator.

The island's electricity company is investigating the safety of reconnecting the imported supply.

Hundreds of homes in Guernsey also had to do without electricity for a short period of time after the power went off at about 0920.
