Liberation soldiers reunited
Liberation celebrations
Friday is the 58th anniversary of the island's liberation

Two soldiers involved in the liberation of Jersey have spoken of their happiness at meeting each other again after 58 years.

Noel Cashford, who was a bomb disposal officer, lost contact with paymaster Bernard le Cocq on Liberation Day.

But this week they met again.

Bernard and Noel became friends when they were part of Force 135, the group which liberated the island.

'Never forget'

But after that historic day they never saw each other again - until this week.

They had a special reunion, which Mr Le Cocq says brought it all back.

"It doesn't become less emotional, because I suppose it brings back the memories of those that were with us in 1945, particularly family," he said.

"They are days you never forget," he said.

The two friends swapped photographs and memories.

They both agreed that the liberation seemed like "only yesterday".
