School plans for evacuation
second world war evacuees
Do you remember the evacuation?
A school is turning back the clock to mark this year's Liberation Day.

On 9 May Guernsey will celebrate the 58th anniversary of its liberation from the occupying German forces.

Pupils at St Andrews will be taking part in an evacuation day on 8 May, dressing in 1940s dress, and taking packed lunches and suitcases.

It is the second time the school has themed the day, in an attempt to bring the curriculum to life.

Headmistress Mary Sebire is trying to track down former evacuees to add an extra dimension to the day.

She said: "We've done the research and got a lot of information, but there's nothing like having first-hand evidence.

"So we would really like these people to get in touch, and hopefully be willing to come and perhaps speak with the children in small groups, and give us their account of what really happened."
