There will be a number of different training courses for carers

The Child Care Trust is providing training sessions this summer for people who work with young people.

A wide-ranging report by Kathie Bull from the UK's Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) found that care for young people in Jersey with behaviour problems was not good enough.

In the light of the report, Jersey's Child Care Trust is to bring a specialist to the island this summer as part of its Children's Week.

The Trust will be providing a number of different training courses for carers during the week in June.

Staff shortage

It will culminate with a Children's Fun Day at Springfield Stadium which last year attracted more than 3,000 people.

Child Care Trust deputy director Fiona Breen said there was a shortage of trained staff.

"Our problem at the moment is recruiting child carers.

"We've got serious problems with quality staff members, so another one of our roles at the moment is encouraging people to go out there and get qualified in various ways, to enter the child care sector."
