Games Association rejects criticism

A new selection appeals procedure is part of the planned changes
Jersey's Commonwealth Games Association insists it is making changes to selection procedures, despite criticism that the process is taking too long.

Senator Mike Vibert, the politican in charge of sport on the island, is unhappy with the delays and said no grants would be provided until changes are made.

But the president of Jersey's Commonwealth Games Association, Cliff Mallet, rejected the criticism.

He said the Association was making changes, but they would take time.

Appeals procedure

Senator Vibert said the Association should improve its appeals procedure for athletes who were not selected.

He is also seeking an increase in sports development in the island and said Jersey should be affiliated to the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) as an island, and not a local association.

But Mr Mallet said a new selection appeals procedure was almost ready.

He said sports development should be down to each individual sport and he claimed all countries were affiliated to the CGA as associations, not as countries.
