Parish calls for lower speed limits
Speeding car
St Clement parishioners want the speed limit reduced to 20 mph
A former candidate for deputy in a Jersey parish is campaigning for lower speed limits.

John Pirout says St Clement parishioners asked him to take up the cause, even though he was not elected.

Concerns about cars speeding along the straight stretches of coast road were raised to Mr Pirout when he was canvassing for voters' support.

He says many of the 400 people who voted for him have since asked him to start petitions to reduce the speed limits in the parish.

They include making the maximum speed along the road from Les Mielles to Green Island 20 mph and installing a pedestrian crossing.

La Rue de la Croix and Samares Lane also have petitions.
