Home owners and landlords in Jersey are being urged to install smoke alarms following a fire in a block of flats in St Helier.
Ten people escaped from the fire at the weekend which started in a tumble dryer.
The Fire and Rescue Service is warning it could happen again at any time.
It took 15 firefighters an hour to control the fire in a ground floor utility room.
Firefighters had to rescue four people from the burning building in Vauxhall Street.
One man had to be rescued from the roof and three others had climbed on to nearby scaffolding.
Community Safety Officer Clive Russel says the same thing could happen again and says islanders should check household appliances and at least buy a smoke alarm.
