A move to build the schools at Belgrave vinery was defeated

Two new schools for Guernsey will be built at Les Nicolles vinery following an unsuccessful attempt to amend the proposals.
The amendment was put forward by Deputy Peter Bougord who argued that narrow roads and bad drainage in the area of Les Nicolles made it an unsuitable location for the schools.
He also said it did not make sense for Guernsey to end up losing more horticultural land.
He added that he understood the island did need new schools, but said there were better sites available.
He said the Belgrave vinery was a better location than Les Nicolles, which has been bought by the Board of Admin for £1.7m.
President of the Education Council, Deputy Martin Ozanne, predicted the vote on the amendment could go down to the wire.
However, it was defeated by 26 votes to 22.
