The new library will cost £200,000
Alderney residents are closing in on their target to raise funds for a new library on the island.

The new building will cost £200,000, and so far islanders have raised £152,000.

Residents hope to have the new facility up and running by the end of the year.

Fund-raising for the new building, in the grounds of the Island Hall, has involved letters of appeal, jumble sales and even selling roof tiles.

The tiles are on sale for £1 each, and although they cannot be named, a record of donations will be kept.

A book listing the contributors will have pride of place in the new building.
